Kindergarten registration under way

Parents of children entering kindergarten this fall may begin registering the new students as early as this week.

Officials with Opp City Schools said Opp Elementary School is currently holding registration each day from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Registration will continue at OES through March and a medical screening testing students’ vision and hearing will be held throughout the day Tues., April 1 and Thurs., April 3.

At Andalusia Elementary School, early registration will be held Monday, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., as well as from 3 until 6 p.m., and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Kindergarten registration will also begin soon for students in the Covington County school system. Registration will be held throughout the day on Fridays, including: Fleeta school, March 21; Pleasant Home School, April 4; W.S. Harlan, April 11; Straughn Elementary School, April 25; and Red Level Elementary School, May 9.

Officials with both city and county schools said children would take part in a skills screening during registration in order to determine academic strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, parents registering at any city or county schools will need to bring an updated shot record (blue form), an original birth certificate, an original Social Security card and proof of residence.
