LBWCC splits with BSCC

LBWCC had to battle to win its conference series over Bishop State on Friday.

The Saints won the first of the three-game series 10-5 on Thursday, and fell 14-9 in the first game yesterday.

Because BSCC won the second game, the series had to go into the tiebreaker game, which the Saints won 8-5.

In the 8-5 victory, the Saints led 2-1 after the second inning, but lost it in the fourth when BSCC addd two runs for a 4-3 advantage. LBWCC bucked up and scored one run each in the fifth and sixth, and added three runs in the seventh to pull away with the victory.

Brand Pugh, Blake Grill and Trey Matherson had two hits each to lead LBWCC. Grill had three RBIs. Brandon Mayhann went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Jed Carter went seven innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits and struck out six.

During the 14-9 loss, LBWCC lost the lead two times before BSCC tacked on nine runs in the eighth to break away.

Roquel “Rock” Marsh, Pugh and Grill had two hits each to lead the Saints. Matherson went 3-for-5.

Brady Eldridge pitched 5.1 innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and struck out three in the loss.
