Three local golf teams will take part in the sectional tournament on Monday.

Andalusia, Straughn and Opp will all be competing for a spot in the sub state round, where the top four from each tournament advance.

The Bulldogs will host the Class 4A, Section 1 tournament at Andalusia Country Club, while the Tigers and Bobcats visit the Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery.

Andalusia coach Marshall Locke said there’s a pretty good field his team is playing against.

“We’ve got to have to play well,” Locke said. “We’ve got to be in the top four teams to advance to the next round.”

For the past week, the Bulldogs have been hard at work practicing to get ready for the tournament.

“Hopefully, everything will go well,” Locke said.

Golfers have the chance to participate in a practice round before the tournament begins.

Straughn’s team made it up to Montgomery on Thursday, and Tigers coach Mike Kelley said they did real well.

“We’ve seen it twice now as a team,” Kelley said. “Last year, we finished second, and I expect us to do real well.”

Kelley said his ace, junior Brooks Rabren, played another sub-par practice round.

Throughout the season, Kelley said golfers Keegan Compton, Austin Noland and Bryan Barnes — the other older players — have faced adversity on the course, which should translate well on the course.

“It’s hard to knock one of those private schools out,” he said. “Our boys have really really improved leaps and bounds.”

Here recently for Opp, the Bobcats have performed pretty well, coach Lance McCollough said.

“We’ve come off a couple matches that have been better,” McCollough said. “We have had some improvement on scores. The boys feel pretty good about going to sectional based off of their performances.”

Tee times for the Andalusia sectional start at 9 a.m. Straughn and Opp start at 8 a.m.
