A stolen vehicle and burglarizing a home of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and firearms landed a Red Level man behind bars recently.

Covington County Chief Deputy David Anderson said the sheriff’s office received a Be On the Lookout for a stolen vehicle headed toward the county last Wednesday.

The same night, there was a burglary at a residence on Stokes Road and the stolen vehicle was allegedly seen in the area.

Anderson said on Thursday night, they received a call that someone was knocking on the door of the victim’s home.

“When officers responded, they located the stolen vehicle, and Jacob Crosby and an unidentified female,” he said. “They also found items taken in the burglary, including jewelry, as well as firearms.”

Anderson said the victim was able to identify the property that was recovered.

Crosby was charged with burglary in the third degree and theft of property in the first degree and was held in the Covington County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

Anderson said Crosby was still in jail on hold for Tuscaloosa County for the stolen vehicle.

The case remains under investigation with the possibility for further charges, Anderson said.
