Four Saints’ pitchers combined to shutout the Faulkner University Eagles 10-0 in an exhibition game Tuesday afternoon at Crum Foshee Field.

Hunter Odom started the game on the mound for the Saints and got in a jam in the first, but pitched his way out of it without giving up a run.

After two quick groundouts from the Saints in the bottom of the first, Quinton Maddox drew a walk and Josh Flowers followed by reaching first on a hit-by-pitch.

Tyler Johnson plated the Saints’ first runs with a two-run double. Brandon Smith followed with a single that brought Johnson around to score.

Devin Stroud entered the game as a relief pitcher in the top of the third, and made a great diving catch in foul ground for the first out of the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Maddox drove in Brandon Cobb with a double. Johnson then drove Maddox in with a single.

Johnson scored on a passed ball that put the Saints up 6-0 in the bottom of the third.

Johnson led the Saints with three RBIs while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Smith finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

“It was a good game for us today,” Saints’ assistant coach Brandon Ware said. “We got a chance to get some guys some innings on the mound that haven’t had many innings this year. It was important to get them some work, because we have some big games coming up in the next few weeks and we will need them.”
