Bishop State downed LBWCC 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Crum Foshee Field.

The Cowboys jumped out front 3-0 in the first inning off Saints’ starting pitcher Brennon Orcutt.

Orcutt then gave up a one-out double in the top of the third, and the Saints brought in freshman reliever Dakota King of Opp.

King walked the first batter he faced, but settled in and retired the next two batters in order to squash the Cowboys’ threat.

In the bottom of the third, and following two quick outs, Brandon Cobb roped a single into the outfield. Cobb stole second a few pitches later, and moved up to third on throwing error from the Cowboys’ catcher.

Charlie Spencer came up next and did what he does best, getting the Saints right back in the thick of the game with a towering two-run blast off the Cowboys’ starting pitcher.

King stayed sharp in the top of the fourth despite walking two batters, and kept the Cowboys lead in check.

Over the next two innings, King remained steadfast on the mound, and did his part to keep the Saints in the game.

KJ Mendelsohm entered as a relief pitcher for the Saints in the top of the seventh, and held the Cowboys in check until a two-out solo shot in the top of the ninth put the Cowboys up, 4-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Saints were unable to get any offense going and were retired in order to end the game.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 12-7 in conference and 24-13 overall.
