An Andalusia man is behind bars after he allegedly took money from an elderly woman for repair work and never completed the job.
Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Beau Smith was arrested and charged with financial exploitation of the elderly first-degree, which is a class B felony.
According to Chief Deputy David Anderson, investigators received a complaint that Smith allegedly entered into a verbal contract to do repair work to a 68-year-old female’s home, which totaled more than $14,000.
Anderson said Smith never completed the job and never returned to the victim’s residence.
Smith is not a licensed contractor in Alabama.
He was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
Anderson said the case is still under investigation.
If any other citizens feel they may be victim, Anderson asks that they contact the sheriff’s office at 334-428-2640.
