Brock is organizing an American Red Cross blood drive for 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. this Fri., June 12, at First United Methodist Church.

He’s working through the program Leaders Save Lives.

“My goal is for 50 pints of blood,” he said. Because some people won’t be able to give, he said, he is working to schedule 72 appointments. As of Wednesday afternoon he needed 13 more volunteers.

Potential donors are asked to schedule an appointment, Brock said, adding that most available spots are between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

“In the summer months, people start going out of town and are constantly doing things,” Brock said. “Blood donations go down drastically. That’s why drives like this one are so important.”

Donors who participate on Friday will be eligible for prizes each hour.

Appointments may be scheduled by calling Brock at 251.227.1215, or online at redcrossblood.org.

Leaders Save Lives participants who organize successful drives earn a chance at scholarship monies. Brock plans to pursue degrees in aeronautical science and air traffic control at Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.
