New sidewalks will be installed on the east side of Andalusia, likely in 2017, thanks to a $394,218 grant for which the city was approved earlier this week.

Mayor Earl Johnson told council members Gov. Robert Bentley recently notified the city it was approved for the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant. The project likely will be funded in 2017.

The project would extend sidewalks down Stanley Avenue to Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, and from Stanley Avenue down Lindsey Bridge Road to the intersection of Maple Street.

The estimated project cost is $538,073, of which the city would contribute $143,854.

“This is the application we didn’t get funded last year,” Johnson said. “We are happy about receiving it.”
