0718 Georgia Bell green

The local community lost a Gantt jewel this week.

Georgia Bell Green, 94, passed way yesterday at her residence.

Green and her husband, C.W., opened Green’s Bar-B-Que Pit in 1942.

The couple opened the one-room structure, offering barbecue for 35 cents and soft drinks for a nickel.

For years, Green’s and Hilltop Meat Co. & Restaurant were the only two dining establishments in the Gantt community, both owned by the Green family.

A lover of flowers, Green was proud of her beautiful roses that adorned her yard.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Able Cemetery with the Rev. Red Coleman officiating.

Visitation will be tomorrow from 2-4 p.m., at Foreman Funeral Home.
