Andalusia’s Public Works Department should be sporting two brand-new garbage trucks later this week.

The council approved the purchase of the trucks two weeks ago, and agreed last night to finance the lease arrangement through Bancorp South Equipment Finance.

The new trucks replace worn equipment, including one currently used truck that is more than 30 years old. The trucks cost approximately $145,000 each.

In other business, the council:

• Abated properts at 101 Doyle St. and 422 Owens St. for weeds and grass.

• Agreed to hire Civil Southeast LLC as the engineering firm for a sidewalk project on the east side of town for which the city recently received grant funding. The project is expected to be done in the 2017 budget year.
