The LBWCC Lady Saints put in a strong effort but fell to Wallace-Dothan 4-1 Tuesday afternoon on the campus of LBWCC.

Both pitchers worked strong opening innings and the score was 0-0 heading into the second inning.

Wallace-Dothan jumped out front with a run in the top of the second inning.

Wallace-Dothan got a walk and single to start the top of the third inning, but then a ground ball to Andi Hughes at third, cut down the lead runner.

Back-to-back singles followed and put Wallace-Dothan on top 2-0.

The Lady Saints got out of the inning when Hannah Fountain fielded a hard ground ball, tag the runner going to second and then fired to first for the double play.

Fountain then reached on error with one out in the bottom of the third, but the Lady Saints were unable to bring her around to score.

Lady Saints’ starting pitcher Tara Trant was strong in the top of the fourth inning as she sat the Wallace-Dothan batters down in order.

However, the Lady Saints went down in order in the bottom of the fourth.

Trant then got Wallace-Dothan three-up-three-down in the top of the fifth.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Kelley Pierce laced a single up the middle, but wasn’t able to come around to score.

In the top of the sixth, Trant worked around a one-out single and held Wallace-Dothan to 2-1 lead.

The first two batters in the bottom of the sixth inning were quickly retired for the Lady Saints, but then Taylor Bethea stepped in and sent a laser beam of a shot over the fence in left field for a solo home run.

Trant got the first batter in the top of the seventh inning, but then a strong rally from the visiting squad tacked on two more runs to give Wallace-Dothan a 4-1 victory.
