The Megan Kelley Smiles Foundation was started in memory of Megan Kelley, who gained her angel wings on Feb. 16, 2015. The foundation’s mission is to help local patients, ages 19-25, who are seeking out-of-town medical assistance. It was Megan’s vision to give back to others who were battling cancer. Each year, the Foundation takes gift baskets to the UAB Bone Marrow transplant unit and locally to the cancer center here in Andalusia on Megan’s birthday. These gift baskets include helpful items needed for extended periods of time in the hospital.

This year, the AHS Family and Consumer Sciences classes sewed port pillows to go in these baskets. Port pillows are cushions to go over the seatbelt to protect the port from being irritated. A port is a small portcath placed below the skin through which the patient to receive their chemotherapy.
