The LBWCC Saints’ baseball team picked up their eighth straight victory after knocking off Calhoun Community College 6-2 on Friday afternoon in Andalusia.
LBWCC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third after Trey McMillian drove in Harrison Morris with a double.
Calhoun responded with a couple of runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Saints picked tied the contest when Morris drove in Chauncey Callier with a single.
The Saints held Calhoun scoreless in the eighth and ninth inning to set up a chance to win in the final frame.
Matt Jones got the inning starting with scorching double to the outfield to put the winning run in scoring position.
Not wanting to take any chances on cheap run, Calhoun set up force plays at every bag after intentionally walking the next two Saints’ batters.
The gamble didn’t work out like Calhoun would have liked, as they then had to face Matthew Christian with the bases juiced.
Christian fouled off the first pitch and watched the second pitch go past for a ball, before sending the third pitch screaming over the fence in right field to give the Saints a 6-2 victory with a walk-off grand slam.
Christian led the way for the Saints with 4 RBIs in the win.
The Saints will be back in action againt Calhoun CC at 9 a.m., today.
The Saints will take on Lawson State today at 4:30 p.m.
