Lady Saints fall to Shelton

The LBWCC Lady Saints put up a strong battle but were unable to overcome early leads by Shelton State in pair of losses Sunday in Tuscaloosa.

SHELTON 8,

LBWCC 5

Shelton grabbed an early lead in the opening game and held off the Lady Saints for an 8-5 win.

In the bottom of the first inning, Shelton went on top 1-0 on a sacrifice fly to center.

Shelton extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff home run.

A couple of singles and double then gave Shelton a 6-0 lead heading into the third inning.

Paige Johnson reached first on a single to start out the top of the third inning for the Lady Saints and then came around to score on an error off a bunt from Summer Simmons.

Ashlyn McKeown followed with a single that score Simmons from third.

The Lady Saints then trimmed the lead down to 6-3 when Jessica Dickson drove in McKeown with a triple to center.

The Lady Saints final run of the game came in the top of the sixth inning when Taylor Bethea doubled home Dickson and Morse to cut the Shelton lead down to 6-5.

Shelton got a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and held off the Lady Saints in the top of the seventh inning for an 8-5 victory.

LBWCC 0

Shelton jumped out front early in the final game of the day and cruised to a 10-0 win over the Lady Saints.

In the opening frame, Shelton went up 1-0 on a two-out single.

The biggest blow of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Shelton plated nine runs to go on top 10-0.
