Lady Saints split with Brewton

The LBWCC Lady Saints split Thursday’s doubleheader with the Coastal Alabama CC Brewton Lady Warriors in Brewton.

BREWTON 5

After falling in the first game of the series, the Lady Saints started the second game strong and came away with an 11-5 victory.

Jessica Dickson led off the game with a single to left and moved up to second on single from Anna Elmore.

The Lady Saints broke onto the scoreboard when Taylor Bethea drove a double to center that allowed Dickson to score from second.

Paige Taylor followed with single to left that score Elmore for a 2-0 Lady Saints’ lead.

Next up, Mara Morse laced a ball to the corner in left for a triple to put LBWCC up 4-0.

The hot start continued for the Lady Saints as Carly Cincotta drove in Morse with a single for LBWCC’s sixth consecutive hit to start the contest.

Summer Simmons reached with a single that moved Cincotta to second before the Lady Saints picked up their first out on the eighth batter in the inning.

After Dickson drew a two-out walk, Elmore picked up her second hit of the inning with a triple to right that put the Lady Saints up 8-0.

Bethea followed with a single that scored Elmore to give the Lady Saints a 9-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning.

In the top of the second inning, Morse started off with a double and moved to third on single from Cincotta.

Simmons then gave the Lady Saints a 10-1 with an RBI single to right.

The Lady Saints extended the lead to double digits when Dickson beat out the throw an infield single and scored Simmons in the process.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Warhawks added two runs, but the Lady Saints held them off for an 11-5 victory.

BREWTON 2, LBWCC 1

In the opening game of the series, the Lady Saints grabbed a late lead, but the Lady Warahawks were able to push the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Lady Saints got a single from Dickson to start the game and a one-out single from Bethea moved her to second.

Dickson stole third with two outs in the inning, but a strikeout ended the opening-frame threat.

The game remained scoreless headlining into the top of the ninth inning.

Elmore led off the top of the ninth with a single to center and stole second a few pitches later.

The speedy Elmore then swiped third to give the Lady Saints a scoring opportunity.

At the plate, Taylor fought off several pitches before driving a fly ball to center that allowed Elmore to tag and score the go-ahead run.

The Lady Warhawks drew a walk to open the bottom of the ninth inning and then an error led to runners on first and second base.

Brewton followed with three-straight singles that pushed across two runs to give the Lady Warhawks a 2-1 win.
