Relay organizing for ‘18

Although the 2018 Relay for Life event isn’t until April, organizers are hard at work assembling teams.

The set goal this year is more than 20 teams and $100,000, with hopes of surpassing that.

Last year’s goal of 20 teams was achieved, but the donations fell short of goal, at $90,000.

Four teams have already assembled for next year’s event.

The kick-off meeting will be Tues., Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. It will be held at the USDA/Covington County 4-H building.

“When we meet for our kick-off meeting, we will give all the teams in attendance information on how to register their team on the Relay for Life website,” said event chairman Randi Bozeman. “We have a few new things to look forward to.”

The theme of the year will be “Relaying Around the World- Passport to a Cure.”

Each team will choose a country and will decorate their tent site and/or design their team shirt based on that country.

“We are expecting a great turnout.” Bozeman said.

Refreshments will be served at the meeting. Anyone with an interest in forming a team or becoming a sponsor, or just an inquiry for more information, should attend the meeting.
