An Elba man is facing attempted murder and robbery charges for his role in a New Year’s Eve shooting that occurred on Hardin Street in Opp.
Law enforcement officials said John Patrick Burrell was confronted by Dontae Rogers at gunpoint.
“Rogers made contact with Burrell, pointed the gun at him and tried to rob him for ‘everything he had.’ Burrell and Rogers got into a tussle, and then Rogers fired a shot hitting Burrell in the right leg,” Kevin Chance, assistant police chief the Opp Police Department said.
From there, Rogers fled the scene to a nearby apartment complex.
Burrell was transferred to Mizell Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Rogers was arrested when he came in for an interview, police said.
Rogers was charged with attempted murder, robbery first and was held on a $650,000 bond.
