Local Girl Scout troops welcomed the start of their cookie selling season with a massive truck load of cookies delivered on Saturday.

Three troops benefited from the cookie drop; Troop 9044, Troop 9130 and Troop 9854.

The selling season for cookies starts now and ends on March 4.

Nikki McKinney, cookie coordinator for Troop 9044, said that the season looks good.

“We can sell cookies well past March 4 if we still have cookies to sell,” McKinney said.

“I think the season will be great.”

For the next two and a half months, Girl Scout Troops will be at the Andalusia Walmart, Winn Dixie, IGA and even local Dollar Generals on every Saturday and some Friday nights.

Girl Scout Troop 9044 has been active for the last seven years, with Amy Hollinghead as the Troop leader.

The Troop meets twice a month at the Opp Senior Center.

“If you don’t catch our Troop selling cookies, you’ll definitely catch one of the other two troops,” McKinney said.

Troop 9044 received 275 cases of cookies alone.

“One of our best sellers is the Caramel deLites, formerly known as Samaos. We ordered about 53 cases of those,” McKinney said.

This year, Girl Scout Troop 9044 is selling Caramel deLites, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lots, Thin Mints and Girl Scouts S’mores.

Girl Scouts cookies are $4 a box, with the exception of the Gluten Free Trios that are $5.

“We didn’t order any Gluten Free Trios this year,” McKinney said.

McKinney has set a goal for the troop.

“Last year we sold about 5,500 boxes of cookies. I hope to at least get 5,500 this year, but if we sell 4,000, I would be happy,” McKinney said.

Girl Scout Troop 9044 will be at Dairy Queen on Sat., Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Walmart from 12-4 p.m.
