Saints fall in extra innings

The LBWCC Lady Saints’ softball team put up a strong fight, but fell to Wabash Valley 6-4 in extra innings on Monday afternoon in Andalusia.
Wabash Valley took the lead in the top of the third inning when a runner scored on a dropped a third strike.
A single followed to put Wabash Valley up 2-0.
Wabash Valley added to its lead in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run.
Katy Cotton doubled with one-out for the Lady Saints in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Natalie Aplin then traded places with Cotton when she doubled to left field.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Betsy Powell reached on a one-out triple to center field.
After the next batter struck out, Summer Simmons drove in Powell with a single to left field.
Jessica Dickson kept things alive for the Lady Saints with a single to right field.
The Lady Saints then tied the game when Cotton drove in Simmons with a base hit.
Neither team scored the next two innings sending the game into extra innings.
Using international tie-breaker rules, the teams had a runner placed on second base during extra innings.
Wabash Valley used a leadoff single to push across the placed runner and give them a 4-3 lead.
The Lady Saints responded with a one-out single from Aplin to tie the game 4-4 and send the game into another inning.
Wabash Valley scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to pick up a the 6-4 victory.
