15U All-Stars fall in tourney

The Covington County Babe Ruth 15U All-Stars battled back from an early loss, but fell by one run in the final game against Brewton 15U.

Covington County started off Friday’s game against Brewton having to come from behind after Brewton scored three in the first inning. But Covington County came back to take the lead in the third inning, scoring four runs. Jackson Joyner, Mason Turner, Cal Ashberry and Jared Hawkins each had RBIs in the third.

Covington County lost the lead late as the Brewton All-Stars scored six runs in the seventh inning.

Parker Spears started the game on the mound for Covington County and Bryant Harper, Turner and Ashberry each contributed for relief.

 

COVINGTON COUNTY 15U 10, COVINGTON COUNTY 14U 1

The 15U All-Stars wasted no time in blowing-out the Covington County 14U All-Stars in Saturday’s game.

The 15U All-Stars started the scoring fiasco in the bottom of the second inning going up by three.

The 14U All-Stars were able to answer one of those runs with one of their own, but in the bottom of the third inning, the 15U All-Stars put another three runs on the board to go up 6-1.

In the fourth inning, the 15U All-Stars were able to put another three runs on the board and then another run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game 10-1.

Jackson Joyner got the win on the mound for the 15U All-Stars. He lasted five innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out four and walking one.

Jaxxson Batson was on the mound for the 14U All-Stars. He went three innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking two out. Hayden Bozeman and Jaxon Castleberry entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one inning respectively.

 

COVINGTON COUNTY 15U 8, OPP 15U 7

In a seven-inning thriller, the Covington County All-Stars were able to hold on to the lead after scoring four runs in the fifth inning.

The Opp All-Stars took an early lead in the second inning when an error scored one run to go up 2-1, but Covington County answered by scoring one in the bottom of the second inning and two in the bottom of the third.

The Opp All-Stars were able to even things up at four in the top of the fourth inning, before Covington County took a four-run lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Even though the Opp All-Stars were able to rally and come back with three runs in the seventh run, it wasn’t enough to pull out the win as the Opp batter popped out to right fielder Braxton Lee to end the game.

Covington County had nine hits in the game, with Jared Hawkins and Lee having multiple hits. Hawkins went three-for-four at the plate to lead Covington County in hits.

 

BREWTON 15U 8, COVINGTON COUNTY 15U 7

Even after taking a hefty lead in the third, it wasn’t enough for the Covington County All-Stars to come away with a win after Brewton rallied in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to win the championship.

Covington County got things started in the first inning scoring one, but the Brewton All-Stars tied things up in the bottom of the first, 1-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brewton took the lead 2-1, but the Covington County All-Stars put the bat to the ball in the top of the third, scoring six runs. Judd Fuqua, Zavier Phillips, Alex Cooper, Braxton Lee and Jake Jeter all drove in runs in the frame, to go up 7-2.

The Covington County All-Stars were able to hold Brewton scoreless in the bottom of the third inning, but allowed Brewton to come back in the bottom of the fifth by letting them score four in the fourth inning and two in the fifth inning to make it 8-7.

Parker Spears led things off on the mound for the Covington County All-Stars. He allowed three hits and eight runs over four and two thirds innings, striking out two. Fuqua threw one and one-third innings in relief.

Jared Hawkins led Covington County with two hits in three at bats.
