South Alabama freshman Ethan Wilson has continued to hammer opposing pitchers as he has helped push the Jaguars into second place in the Sun Belt East division with just two games left in the regular season.

Wilson has shattered the South Alabama record for home runs in a season and is approaching the Sun Belt freshman record.

Coming into the season, South Alabama’s freshman home run record was nine set by former MLB All-Star Luis Gonzalez in 1986.

The Sun Belt record for home runs is 18 set by Middle Tennessee’s Bryce Brentz in 2008.

With two games left in the season, Wilson is sitting at 17 home runs.

Wilson currently leads the Sun Belt in home runs (17), slugging percentage (.708), runs scored (58), total bases (143) and triples (4).

Currently, Wilson is ninth in batting average (.342), third in on base percentage (.455), second in hits (69), fourth in RBIs (50) and fifth in walks (36).

The Jaguars wrap up the regular season this weekend with a home series against the Troy Trojans.

The weekend series will be crucial to both teams as they are playing for seeding in next week’s Sun Belt Conference tournament.

The top 10 teams in the conference will compete in the 2019 Sun Belt conference tournament from May 21-26 in Conway, SC

South Alabama is currently in second place in the East Division with a conference record of 15-12.

Georgia Southern leads the division with a conference record of 16-11.

Troy is in fourth place in the division with a conference record of 14-13.

South Alabama and Troy will be in action tonight and Saturday at 6:30 at Stanky Field.

Games will be live streamed by JagsNationTV.
