“The CDC is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and which continues to expand,” states the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC reports, “OnFebruary 11, 2020 the World Health Organization announced an official name for the disease that is causing the current outbreak of coronavirus disease (first diagnosed in 2019) as COVID-19,” adding, “Chinese health officials have reported tens of thousands of cases of COVID-19 in China, with the virus reportedly spreading from person-to-person in parts of that country.”

According to the World Health Organization, there have been 75,748 confirmed cases in China resulting in 2121 deaths and 1073 confirmed cases outside China resulting in nine deaths (as of Feb. 20, 2020). The disease has been confirmed in 26 countries around the world.  Of the seven continents around the globe, only South America and Antarctica have no confirmed cases yet.

“The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person,” and as for the symptoms, the CDC states, “For confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death. Symptoms can include: fever, cough, and shortness of breath…CDC believes at this time that symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure.”

Science Alert reported, “The World Health Organization said this week it may be 18 months before a vaccine against the coronavirus is publicly available.”

There’s another disease already rampant in the world that all mankind must face.  It’s a disease of the soul that the Bible calls sin.  The origin of this disease can be found in the Genesis account of the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned against God’s command.

Because of Adam and Eve’s choice, sin has infected their descendants ever since then.  Every one of us – every man, woman, boy and girl – is born with a sinful nature.  The Apostle Paul tells us that because of one man, sin entered into the world (Romans 5:12).  He writes, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and he warns that the end result is death and eternal separation from God (Romans 3:23 and 6:23).

But God loved us so much He provided, at great cost, the cure for our sin over.  Paul says, “But God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  God gave His only Son to give us eternal life.  We don’t have to die in our sins.

Admit you are a sinner.  Believe by faith in Jesus Christ.  God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Dwight L. Moody once said, “Looking at the wound of sin will never save anyone.  What you must do is to look at the remedy,” As Billy Graham has put it, “We don’t need to be crippled any longer by the disease of sin – because God has provided the cure.”
