The Andalusia City Council agreed to purchase a new trailer for garbage hauling at its most recent meeting.
The purchase of the trailer will replace the city’s previous trailer, which was placed in surplus earlier. The cost of the trailer is $130,389 and will be purchased from the state bid list.
“This is similar to an 18-wheeler trailer and is used to take at least one load [of garbage] each day to the Coffee County landfill,” said Mayor Earl Johnson.
The city also agreed to vacate Brown Street. The street, located behind Christ the King Catholic Church and parallel to Sanford Avenue, was never developed. The church has agreed to maintain the property as part of their grounds moving forward.
The city also approved two weed nuisance abatements and declared a Public Works vehicle and other items as surplus to sell.
The next regular meeting of the city council is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6 p.m., with a workshop beginning at 5:30 p.m.
