The Alabama Department of Education announced statewide testing proficiency results in reading, math and science.

The Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) tested students in second through eighth grades in Language Arts (ELA) and math, as well as fourth, sixth and eighth graders in science.

The Andalusia City School System had 55.3 percent of students test as “proficient” in ELA, 47 percent in math, and 48.8 in science. Proficiency is considered a higher bar for students than being at grade level. A student could be at grade level, but perhaps not be highly “proficient” based on ACAP testing results.

Second graders in the ACSS scored 89.66 at grade level or above on ACAP reading tests while third graders were at 87.59 percent.

Opp City Schools’ ACAP results came in with 55.6 percent proficiency in ELA, 40.70 in math, and 43.10 in science.

On the ACAP reading assessments, Opp second graders are at 83.87 percent at above reading level while third graders are at 87.50.

Students in the Covington County School System earned an overall proficiency percentage of 54.40 in ELA, 34.23 in math, and 43.30 in science.

The county schools’ second graders tested at 89.67 at or above reading level and the third graders scored at 82.59 percent.
