Andalusia boys, girls fall to 6A Park Crossing

Andalusia High School hosted the Park Crossing Thunderbirds Friday night with both the girls’ and boys’ teams falling short against the 6A opponent.

Tariah Magee lifted the Lady Thunderbirds to a fast start with three three-pointers in the first quarter as the Andalusia girls fell behind 16-6 after one period. Kamari Gay, Kionni Wright and Jaidyn Berry each hit baskets for the Lady Bulldogs early.

Kelsie Horwath led the Lady Bulldogs with three points in the second period with both Gay and Wright adding a bucket each. But, Maliyah Meeks hit eight points in the period for the T-birds as Park Crossing increased their lead to 27-13 at the half.

Berry led the Lady Bulldogs in the third period with four points while Gay, Wright, and Taya Newton each added points from the free throw line. Park Crossing continued to outpace Andalusia as Aminata Falls hit two three-pointers and Meeks added seven to her point total as they increased their lead to 43-21.

The Lady Bulldogs added 10 points in the final quarter to Park Crossing’s three points to make the final score 46-31.

Berry led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points in the game. Wright finished with eight points, Gay added seven, and Horwath chipped in five points.

Andalusia jumped out to an early lead over the Thunderbirds in the boys’ contest, but a strong third period turned the game around as Park Crossing left with the victory, 67-58.

Six different Bulldogs chipped in points during the first period, including a three-pointer from Tevin Sigers as Andalusia took a 13-12 lead after the first period. Andalusia added to that lead in the second period with another three-pointer by Sigers and another from his brother Tyler Sigers. Kam Weaver hit two baskets as the Bulldogs went into the half with a 29-21 edge.

Park Crossing figured out the Andalusia defense and came out hot in the third, outpacing Andalusia 26-11 in the period. Jayden Scott, who had only one basket in the first half for the T-birds, had 14 in the third period and Jacan Johnson hit two three-pointers for the visitors. Noah Curry’s three-pointers, along with six free-throws, kept Andalusia within striking distance going into the final period with the score standing at 47-40.

The two teams each scored 14 points in the final period with Tyler Sigers leading the Bulldogs with eight down the stretch.

Leading the Bulldogs was Tyler Sigers with 16 points. Weaver finished the game with 10 points. Nashaun Wilson was good for seven points and Tevin Sigers chipped in six points.

Andalusia will host area opponent Slocomb on Wednesday, Jan. 10, with girls starting at 4 p.m. and boys expected to begin at 5:30 p.m.
