Wildcats win second straight area title with 5-0 home shutout over Kinston

The Florala Wildcats continued their winning ways and secured their second straight area title with a shut-out win over the Kinston Bulldogs, 5-0, on Monday.

Cody Walsh was dominant on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up only two hits and no runs while striking out 16 Kinston batters on his way to the complete-game win.

Florala got things going offensively in the bottom of the third. Dalton Jackson earned a walk which was followed by a single from Cody Walsh. Easton Walsh followed with a two-RBI double to right field, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.

The score did not change until the bottom of the fifth. Florala led off with back-to-back singles by Jackson and Cody Walsh. Once again, Easton Walsh doubled to bring home pinch-runner Greyson West to increase the Wildcat lead to 3-0. Cody Walsh then scored from third on a ground ball off the bat of Noah Bryan, making the score 4-0 after five innings.

The final run for the Wildcats came in the sixth when Gunner Taylor came home on a wild pitch.

Cody Walsh sealed the 5-0 win with two strikeouts and a pop fly in the top of the seventh.

E. Walsh led the Wildcats at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. He had two doubles in the game.

Cody Walsh also went 3-for-3, scoring two runs.

The Wildcats have lost only one game so far this season with a record of 14-1. The team will travel to Samson on Thursday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m.
