A traffic stop in Montgomery led to the arrest Tuesday of the second suspect in the December kidnapping and robbery of a Hibbett’s Sporting Goods clerk.

Lt. Paul Dean with the Andalusia Police Department said Bobby Jermain Tillis, 31, of Prattville, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force shortly after lunch Tuesday.

Dean said investigators sought help from the agency after learning that Tillis had returned to the Montgomery-Prattville area.

“We got the call at approximately 12:15 p.m. that Tillis was in custody and being transported to the Montgomery County Jail,” Dean said. “From what I understand, Tillis was arrested during a traffic stop, riding in a stolen vehicle. He offered no resistance.”

Dean said officers were immediately sent to transport Tillis to Covington County, where he was booked into the county jail under a $1.5 million bond on charges of robbery I, theft of property I and kidnapping II. Dean said a hold was placed on Tillis for an outstanding failure to appear warrant in Montgomery County.

Tillis’ arrest comes 18 days after he and Jerome Edwards, 28, of Autaugaville, allegedly tried to rob the store’s two clerks of a night deposit bag. One of the employees – who did not have the deposit – was approached by two suspects who demanded the woman give them the deposit and her car keys. She was forced into the car at gunpoint and later left behind the shopping center.

Edwards eluded police in the clerk’s stolen 2008 Nissan Altima and was apprehended the following morning in the Pigeon Creek Community with help from local hunters.
