United Fund collections at standstill

Collections for this year’s United Fund campaign are at a standstill.

UF chairman Wem Mellown said Friday that thus far, the non-profit organization has only collected $80,000 of the $130,000 goal, which hasn’t increased since last month.

The campaign kicked off in September.

Mellown said UF officials are still waiting on contributions from the cities of Opp and Andalusia.

“We’re still asking for donations,” he said. “If we don’t meet our goal, we’ll probably have to enter the first quarter by giving out prorated checks to the organizations.”

Money raised through UF goes to help 20 local agencies and benefits many local residents throughout the year.

This year, the money will go to support the local chapter of American Red Cross, IMPACT of Covington County, Boy Scouts, Andalusia Ministerial Association, Girl Scouts, Covington County Adult Training Center, Covington County 4-H Clubs, Opp Meal on Wheels, Andalusia, Covington County and Opp youth sports, SAFE of Covington County, Andalusia Community Christmas, local libraries, Opportunity House, Crossover Ministries, Governor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities, Sav-A-Life and Beyond Measure Ministries.

Those interested in donating to United Fund may make checks payable to Covington United Fund, and mail them to P.O. Box 1791, Andalusia, AL 36420.
