It may not include all the things that make the perfect country and western song – mama, trains, trucks, prison or getting drunk – but it’s a local group’s tribute to their beloved city – Andalusia.

Aptly named “The Andalusia Ballad,” the song is by Blake Herman and Ethan King, also known as the “Train Boys.” In a musical style comparable to Colt Ford and Brantley Gilbert, a duo, who has been making music together since they were 13.

The two have come up with a song about Andalusia.

“We got together and wrote a song about having a good time in Andalusia,” Herman said. “ We were just riding around Andalusia, and it’s something we had thought about before (writing a song), and we just came up with the beat, and it was perfect.

“It’s cool because people ride around blaring our music,” he said. “The song is called ‘The Andalusia Ballad.’”

Herman said they typically play for enjoyment, but hopes to one day get noticed.

“We do it for kicks. If you’re having a bad day, we like to cheer you up,” he said. “But, I’m going to try real hard to get us noticed.”

Herman, who is pursuing a degree in music production at Troy University, said they one day hope to play in front of a crowd of thousands at a musical festival similar to Bama Jam.

“Right now, we’re kind of underground,” he said. “Ethan has played a few shows, but I haven’t played anything big.”

Herman said they’d like to sell some albums, too.

“No radio stations have played our songs yet, but we’d like for them to pick us up,” he said. Our classmates listen to our music.”

Herman said the two, who recently graduated from Pleasant Home, have been making music together for years.

“I’ve always liked to write poems, and he’s been good at music,” Herman said. “We would mess around with the guitar. We had a Web site as teenagers.”

Right now, making music is just a hobby.

“But, we’d like for it to turn into something big,” he said. “That’s why I’m getting my music production degree.”

Herman is the son of Jimmy Herman and Paige Thomasson, while King, who is attending LBW Community College, is the son of Cathy McVay and Daryl King.
