A Florala woman was caught in the act of burglarizing a Third Street home Saturday – an act, she claimed, was an attempt to fuel her crack cocaine habit.

Chief Sonny Bedsole said 45-year-old Theresa Henley allegedly hoisted her 5’7”, 116-pound frame through the home’s window.

“An alert neighbor saw her crawling through the window and called police,” Bedsole said. “Two officers arrived to secure the home, while others made entry. Once inside, they found Ms. Henley hiding under the bed. She had gathered jewelry and a small amount of currency. She confessed it was for drugs. She was on crack cocaine and needed the money to buy more.”

Bedsole said Henley also admitted to an Aug. 1 burglary on the same street, where several flat screen televisions were stolen.

Henley is charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and one count each of second-degree theft of property and third-degree theft of property. She was transported to the Covington County Jail and is being held on a $325,000 bond.

Bedsole said Henley is also on parole from Florida, where she had two prior felony convictions.
