There is power in prayer, and one local Christian performance group is adding theirs to others from around the nation in the hopes to uplift the nation.

Beginning on Sept. 26, and running through Election Day, a non-denominational church group event called David’s Tent has been granted permission to set up a huge tent on the south lawn of the White House and conduct 24-hour worship services and prayer.

Included in that group will be Glorious Disaster from Florala and its members – Adam Resendiz, bass guitar; Scott Johnson, lead guitars; Zach Spader, drums; Keith White, rhythm guitars; (front row) Lori Davis, worship leader/lead vocals, and Megan Maxey. backing vocals/worship leader. The purpose of the 40-day event is “silent reflection on the efficacy of the atonement blood of Jesus for all sins of America,” the website stated.

“This is not a political group, and the worship will be only to lift up Christ as we pray for our nation,” White said. “My team has been asked to lead a two hour block of worship on Oct. 23, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. We will join hundreds of other worship teams during this 40 days of worship, along with thousands of worshipers from all backgrounds, states and denominations… all coming together to lift up the name of Jesus. It’s an amazing thing to be asked and an amazing thing for these kids to do.”

White called the use of the south lawn “unprecedented, as this size event has never been undertaken in D.C. before.”

“While I know that locals can’t come out and support us – unless they want to, of course – but we hope they will at least keep us in their prayers,” White said. “Again, this isn’t geared towards any political group, but rather to challenge the average American to seek God and pray over our elections and for those who lead this country.”

The group will be traveling to D.C. on Sun., Oct. 21, and return on Oct. 24.
