Opp High School students are on a two-fold mission – to give back to the community and to raise awareness of breast cancer.

“We just want to give back to the community,” said principal Ron Snell. “October is both breast cancer awareness and domestic violence awareness month, and Opp High School students are getting involved and supporting both of these initiatives.”

Snell said the first student activity would take place tomorrow, Fri., Oct. 12, when students, along with faculty and staff participate in “Pink Out” day.

“On this day, OHS will be wearing pink in support of those who have been affected by breast cancer,” he said.

Next, OHS students will collect supplies for the Opportunity House.

“This is a home that offers a safe place for adults and children to go if they are caught in an abusive home,” Snell said. “This is a way to show our students the importance of giving back to the community. With us rolling houses last week, our students showed they could come up with supplies. We asked local businesses to partner with us, too.”

The items needed are cleaning supplies, such as laundry and dish detergent, Pine Sol, garbage bags, bleach, as well as fabric softener, toilet paper, copy paper and canned goods.

“Please join us by encouraging your student to participate in both events,” Snell said.
