Three alleged meth cooks in Opp are off the streets, arrested by Opp Police Department’s newest Drug Task Force agent – before he even officially began with the DTF.

DTF Commander Mark Odom said yesterday was Mitch Schofield’s first day with the agency; however, Thursday afternoon, Scofield responded to a domestic dispute on Cotton Street in Opp.

“When he and other officers arrived, they made contact with Jaime Daniels Jackson and determined that she and her daughter, Amber Nicole Nelson, hade been involved in an altercation,” Odom said. “Jackson told officers that Nelson and her boyfriend, Marshall Aarron Bragg Boyington, had been manufacturing methamphetamine inside the home.

“Officer Scofield and Officer Corey Booth saw items inside Jamie Jackson’s car that were commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, and Jackson allowed the officers to search her car,” he said. “During the search, officers recovered a bag containing lighter fluid, a one pot methamphetamine cook containing methamphetamine oil, a pyrex dish, a cold pack, drain opener plastic tubing as well as other items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine.”

Odom said when interviewed, all three admitted to buying products to cook methamphetamine and/or assisting in the manufacturing process.

Jackson, Nelson, and Boyington were each charged with manufacturing a controlled substance I, possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. They were booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $350,000 bond each.

“To say that (Scofield) came out of the gate running is an understatement,” Odom said. “This kind of proactive investigating is why I was excited when Chief Carnley told me (Scofield) was joining the DTF. He is going to be good for the war on drugs in Covington County.”
