A college student is behind bars after she allegedly stole small amounts of cash from five separate vehicles on the LBWCC campus this week.

Sgt. Jason Curry of the Andalusia Police Department said officers received a call to LBW on Wed., Nov. 14, after a student discovered his vehicle had been broken into, and that other vehicles had been as well

Curry said APD arrested 19-year-old Shaina Joyce Hutcheson, who was charged with three counts of unlawful breaking and entering and two counts of theft of property III.

“The witness confronted the suspect,” Curry said. “We were able to take her into custody and she admitted to breaking and entering. She took small amounts of cash that were left in each vehicle.”

Hutcheson is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $36,000 bond.

With the upcoming holidays, Curry said it’s important for residents to lock their cars.

“These were crimes of opportunity,” he said. “All the doors were unlocked at LBWCC. (Hutcheson) just walked through checking doors. It’s a real good idea to lock your car.”
