Andalusia man faces capital murder charges

An Andalusia man is facing a capital murder charge in Montgomery after he and two others allegedly stabbed a man to death during a burglary on New Year’s Day.

Ricky Jerome Padgett, 36, was arrested in Andalusia by an Alabama Pardons and Parole officer Tuesday afternoon for violation of probation – an unrelated charge.

Padgett and two Montgomery women allegedly stabbed 21-year-old Danny Stroud to death in the commission of a burglary. Stroud, who suffered a single stab wound to the chest, was pronounced dead at a Montgomery hospital.

Padgett, who is currently being held in the Covington County Jail without bond, is awaiting transport to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Reports show that Montgomery police responded to a Powell Lane home around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. It is believed that the stabbing stemmed from an argument.

Also arrested were the victim’s sister, 24-year-old Amanda Stroud, and his ex-girlfriend, 19-year-old Tari Snell. Both women are from Montgomery and are being held without bond on a capital murder charge.

Padgett’s connection with the other suspects is unknown.
