Get the hammers ready and mark the calendar for Feb. 8 and 9 – the official start of the Covington County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity’s fourth building blitz.

The home will be located at the corner of Oak and College streets in Andalusia.

“We’re excited to be back in the construction business again,” said chapter director Dale Pancake Thursday.

Work will begin at 8 a.m. and end around 4 p.m. both days and continue the following weekend on Feb. 15 and 16.

And as usual, volunteers are needed to make the blitz a success, Pancake said.

“We need all types of volunteers – skilled, unskilled, one person or a group,” he said. “If you’ve got a favorite pair of gloves, bring them. If not, don’t worry. We’ll have enough to go around.”

Pancake said work has begun on the foundation on the home, which will be located at 301 College Street, near CCB Bank. This will be the second Habitat build in Andalusia.

Pancake said the home will be an “attractive house that fits in with the neighborhood” and will be the first Energy Star Habitat home built locally.

Build volunteers will be treated to lunch and snacks throughout the day. T-shirts will also be available.

Pancake said those wishing to volunteer should call Kylan Lewis at 334-343-2299 to sign up; however, a registration tent will be set up at the site for volunteers, as well. Those 19 or younger must have a parent sign a consent form, while those under 16 will not be allowed to work in the construction process. Pancake said, however, there will be other volunteer opportunities there for youth.

Monetary donations are always welcome, he said, and can be mailed to the local HFH chapter at: Covington County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1034 Andalusia, AL 36420.
