LBWCC’s got a big game tonight at home as the Saints basketball teams host Chattahoochee Valley in conference action.

The Saints’ men’s team is coming off a tough 52-49 loss to Bishop State on Monday night.

With 10:31 left in the second half, LBWCC went on a 20-10 run, but couldn’t finish the game on a last possession with less than 20 seconds to go.

Kyser Irby, LBWCC’s leading scorer, 12 of his 22 points in the final 10:31 of the game.

BSCC led 41-29 before the Saints’ run.

Irby’s 3-pointer with less than eight minutes to go cut the game to 45-38. He then made two free throws on LBW’s next possession to put the game at 45-40 with 7:06 on the clock.

William McQuitter started a quick 4-0 run for the Saints when he got a jumper to go, and then stole an inbound pass to set up an easy bucket for Kenny Green to make it 51-47 with 1:18 left.

With less than one minute to go, LBW had the ball and Irby was fouled for a 1-and-1 shot. He made both to put the game at the 51-49 mark.

After a timeout by LBWCC, Bishop State got the ball back and Ronnie Abrams was fouled to shoot a 1-and-1 at the line.

Abrams, luckily for the Saints, missed the shot, where Irby got the rebound with about 20 seconds to go.

However, the Saints couldn’t get the ball in the hole on their final possession, and had to foul on Bishop’s last possession.

“It was just a tough loss for us,” LBWCC coach Ricky Knight said. “It was a loss we didn’t need. We’ve just got to come back and see what we can do with Chattahoochee Valley (today).”

Knight said right now, the Saints are competing for one of the top three spots in the conference ahead of the state tournament, which will be held at Wallace State-Hanceville the second week of March.

Adams chipped in 10 points for BSCC.

In women’s action, the Lady Saints fell 54-42.

Tip off tonight in Andalusia is 5:30 for the women’s. The men’s team follows for the night cap.
