Winter storm warning issued

When a snowstorm transformed south Alabama on Feb. 12, 2010, Dr. Bob Bush went skiing on the golf course of the Andalusia Country Club.

 

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the deep South, including Covington County, from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning..

A powerful cold front will move across South Alabama Monday afternoon, bringing strong northerly winds and subfreezing temperatures into the area Monday night through Wednesday morning.

Most of the area can expect a mix of freezing rain and sleet throughout the day Tuesday. The This mixed precipitation type is then expected to transition to all snow north of a line from Hattiesburg Mississippi to Andalusia Tuesday evening, and outh of t his line all the way to the coast after midnight Tuesday night.

The NWS projects that the heavier precipitaiton amounts will be southeast of a line from Wiggins, Miss., to Greenville, Ala., where significant hazardous winter weather accumulations are possible.

 

 

High temperatures will be in the mid-60s  Monday, dropping to 40 on Tuesday and into the 20s Tuesday night.

The last time Andalusia saw snow of any significance was on Feb. 12, 2010.
