AES students’ artwork showcased

“You can hang all the art work on the wall you want. When you put it in a frame, it’s real.”

That’s what Andalusia Elementary School art teacher Cathy Powell said that best describes the school’s second art show, which was held Tuesday.

Nine-hundred-and-seventy-five AES students created pieces of artwork, which was then sent to an Atlanta framing company called Artome.

Artome frames the art at no cost and then ships the framed work back to the school, and sets it up for all to see.

“It was a win-win for me,” Powell said about the project with Artome. “The only thing we did was put in the sweat and time.”

Rows and rows of art work stood with different pieces depicting several subjects.

“We try to make sure all of the children have a piece of art work,” Powell said.

Funds raised from the art show go to help the program at AES. Each framed piece of art costs $25. The school gets $7 per art work bought.

Powell said parents and anybody who is interested can purchase the art. Additionally, Artome can recreate different pieces of art if the original has already been bought.

Powell said three weeks ago, the real work to get the art work in took place.

“We had to have a form for every child,” she said. “High school helpers and other students helped out, too.”
