Alabama State Auditor Jim Zeigler appointed Andalusia native Sabrina Lee to the Covington County Board of Registrars recently.

Lee was appointed to her new part time position to finish the term of Bertie Smith, who resigned due to the illness of her husband. Additionally, she was appointed based on her qualifications and experience. For 14 years, Lee worked in the Covington County Probate Office.

While in the probate office, Lee dealt with the board of registrars often, helping produce voter lists during and after elections.

She took a break for two years because she had a baby.

“I was excited to get the position,” Lee said. “I’m excited that I was at the top of the list. That really surprised me. That was a good thing.

“I’m looking forward to doing a wonderful job,” she said.

The board of registrars appointment is her first time getting back in the work force.

The board handles voter registration and makes sure every voter is in the system, and all of the people who are not supposed to be registered such as felons.

“We make sure they’re not registered until they’ve regained their rights,” she said.

Lee’s term ends on Sept. 30, but she hopes that she’ll be reappointed in October for another four years.

Lee and her husband Dexter have three children.
