Local girls looking to help their daughters build courage, confidence, and character may be interested in signing their girls up for local Girl Scouts.

New troop leader Sarah Boyington said Tuesday that there is currently an early bird special going on until June 17 in which parents may sign up their girls for $15.

“Regular sign-ups are in September,” she said. “And the cost increases to $25.”

Boyington said this is her first year as troop leader.

During the summer, Boyington said, the girls will have a few meetings.

“Then during the school year, we will meet twice a month on a Saturday,” she said. “We will pick the day depending on the holidays.”

Boyington said she currently has girls from Andalusia, Pleasant Home and Straughn signed up, but any girl in the county is welcome.

Through Girl Scouts, girls discover fun, friendship and power of girls together.

The program aims to help girls grow courageous and strong through a wide variety of enriching experiences such as field trips, skill-building sports clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardships.

Girl Scout Troop 9130 is open to any girl from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Girls who sign up during the early bird sign-ups will earn an early bird patch.

Boyington said the Girl Scout year runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30.
