Dollar General is building a new store near Babbie.

Laura Somerville, spokesperson for Dollar General, confirmed they were working on a new Dollar General.

“We are excited to bring a new location to Opp,” she said. “We are working diligently on a new store located on U.S. Highway 84. Based on the initial construction timeline, I anticipate the store will open by late winter.”

Somerville said that was tentative and could change dependent on construction progress.

“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority,” she said. “The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and a convenient shopping choice. We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers with a three-to-five-mile radius or 10-minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”

Somerville said the Babbie store will employ six to 10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store.

They are already taking applications for the job, she said.
