ROBY VISITS

Rep. Martha Roby spent her afternoon being “STEMulated” at Straughn’s afterschool program.

Roby and staff toured the SES and SMS 21st Century Community Learning Center.

Joyce Mitchell, afterschool program coordinator, and SES Principal Bettye Ann Older escorted Roby.

Roby spent time with kindergartners conducting a STEM project in the library with school counselor Mandi Morris.

She also saw first graders exploring technology with Lisa Thomas and Christa Holley.

Roby observed second graders completing homework with Ms. Oates and third graders playing “duck, duck, goose, with the SHS school nurse Terri Watson and others playing board games with Ms. Ammons and Ms. Woodham.

Down the hall in fourth grade, Roby took part in a lesson about the solar eclipse in Monica Fallin’s room.

Fifth graders were accessing STRIDE with Ms. Farley, and sixth through eighth graders explored nutrition, food labels and food safety with Ms. Patterson and Ms. Sport.

Older spoke to Roby about the importance of the community partners such as the Extension Service, 4H, forestry committee and Wilma Sport with the child nutrition program.
