Opp, Andy make laundromat arrests same day

Both Andalusia and Opp officers police made arrests at laundromats on Wednesday.

The OPD was called to the Laundromat located at the corner of Jackson Street and Cummings Avenue in reference to a suspicious person on Wednesday afternoon.

An officer made contact with a 27-year-old Opp man who was walking in circles in the parking lot and refused to communicate with the officer. The officer attempted to pat the individual down for weapons and the individual became physically aggressive.

Officers took the individual into custody, charging him with obstruction, and transported him to the Mizell Memorial Hospital emergency room for observation. He was later transported to the Opp City Jail. Wednesday evening, an additional criminal mischief charge was added as a result damage the man caused in the city jail. His name was not released.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, APD officers responded to a call to the Soap Opera Laundromat on East Three Notch Street where a man was trying to break out a window. The attendant told officers the man was trying to take a blanket that did not belong to him and was very agitated, running around the building and yelling.

He was identified as Dalton Bryan McPherson, 27, of Andalusia. He was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. More charges may be forthcoming, the APD said.

McPherson was transported to the Covington County Jail.
