In addition to an A-list of performers, the 2018 Thunder Over Alabama, an airshow at South Alabama Regional Airport, will feature several locals who will tandem jump with Team Fastrax, a professional parachute demonstration team.

Former Speaker of the House Seth Hammett has long been committed to parachuting during the 2018 airshow. But SARA Director Jed Blackwell said three more people have agreed to parachute next month.

PowerSouth CEO and SARA Authority Chairman Gary Smith, SARA Authority member Donald Barton, and local resident Johnny Harper will also jump with the demonstration team. In the event that any of those are unable to jump, alternates are Walt Merrell and Ben Bowden.

“They’ll be jumping from a C-31 at 13,500 feet,” Blackwell said.

The airshow is set for Sat., Nov. 17, 2018. Aerial performances begin at noon, and the show continues until 5 p.m.
