Members of Green Tree Christian Fellowship are planning to prepare meals for up to 250 people on Thanksgiving Day.

Pastor John Eiland said the traditional meal, which includes smoked turkeys from Hill Top, will be available for dine in and carry out in the local area.

This is the second year the church has done a holiday meal and invited those in the community who are in need or who are alone to join them for lunch.

“It was just something the Lord really put on our hearts to do,” Eiland said of the group’s first foray into holiday meals last year. “When it was mentioned a couple of months ago, everybody said, ‘Let’s do it.’ They were real happy about it.”

Eiland said that anyone in the local area who needs a meal delivered can call the church office at 334-427-0023 and leave a phone number and address.

“If there’s no one there, just leave a message and we’ll get back with you,” he said.

The meals will be available at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Eiland said anyone who would like to participate also should call, and organizers will get back with them about a job.

“Most of our preparations will be done at the church the day before,” he said.

If anyone would like to contribute to the effort, checks may be mailed to Green Tree Christian Fellowship, c/o John Eiland, 15385 Zion Hill Road, Andalusia, AL 36421.
