Luke Ritter of Troy was the fastest runner in Saturday’s Candyland Christmas Half Marathon, finishing the 13.1-mile course in 1:29:44, or a pace of 6:51 minutes per mile.

There was a total of 121 participants in the half marathon, 5K run and 5K walk coordinated by local runners with proceeds designated for area track and cross country teams. Runners came from a region between DeFuniak Springs, Dothan and Montgomery, with one runner from as far away as Tampa, Fla.

Organizer Jennifer O’Neal said volunteers stuffed flyers about the local race in packets at large races in Dothan and Montgomery in an attempt to grow local participation.

Of the 121 participants, 58 ran the half marathon. Rounding out the top 10 finishers were:

• Phillip Anderson of DeFuniak Springs, 1:31:08.

• Bob Walker of Baker, 1:38:17.

• Bonnie Yesian of Fort Rucker, 1:40:17.

• Ashton Leckrone of Montgomery, 1:40:53

• Jonathan Ellison of Opp, 1:44:01

• Michael Hora of Montgomery, 1:44:55

• Allen Ward of Andalusia, 1:45:08.

• Michelle Rotton of Pike Road, Ala., 1:5:59.

• Neil Guess of Dothan, 1:49:11.

5K

Samuel Driver of Dozier finished first among the 50 runners in the 5K, finishing in 21:22.
