Improvements will be completed in October

A $2.9 million project under way at Fort Frank F. Horton, the National Guard Armory in Andalusia, is expected to extend the life of the facility for 10 to 15 years.

Eric Holt, Contracting Officers Representative of the State Property and Disbursing Office, said notice to proceed in the project was given on June 15, and is expected to be completed in October of 2019.

Holt said the project consists of a complete restoration of the:

• Shell (exterior walls/doors and roof),

• Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing systems

• Interior

• Supporting Facilities (POV parking, MOV parking, exterior lighting)

• Existing metal storage building

and the addition of a generator.

While the project is being completed, the unit from Andalusia, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (HHB), 1-117 Field Artillery, is temporarily stationed in Brantley.  The current plan is for the same unit to return to Andalusia post construction, Holt said.
