Meredith’s Miracles on Tuesday began tryouts for the 2019 Cookies with Character event, but Executive Director Kiley Spears said there are plenty more opportunities for auditions.

Cookies with Characters is an annual fundraiser for the local charity, and uses about 150 volunteers. There are openings for 80 different characters and some understudies.

Auditions are open to those in the eighth grade and up and are being held at the former Ansley Place location at 1214 East Three Notch Street.

Among those auditioning on Tuesday were Reagan Odom and Ella Jordan. Both are returning to the event this year.

“It’s really fun,” Odom, an AHS sophomore who previously was Mario in the show, said.

Jordan, who was Luigi last year, said she loves interacting with the kids who attend the show.

“It brings a lot of joy,” she said.

Auditions resume today, from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. Spears said those who previously have been in the show don’t have to try out, but can contact her via text or email.

Auditions also are set for:

• Mon., Jan. 14 – 4 p.m.– 8 p.m.

• Tues., Jan. 15 – 4 p.m.– 8 p.m.

• Wed., Jan. 16 – 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

The 2019 Cookies with Characters event is set for Sat., Feb. 23, and Sun., Feb. 24, in the Andalusia Kiwanis Building.
